As Wages Stagnate, Workers Turning to Unions

Some say unions are in demise but with wages stagnant in recent years while corporations make record profits and executives receive $30-400 million parachutes when they leave or retire, unions may be making a comeback. Certainly Republicans in Congress have no interest in working people and there is even suspicion that right wing Republicans would like nothing more than to reduce American workers to third world pay scales. But years ago, economists and business people discovered that a healthy middle class means a healthy economy in the long run; it may be time to get back to that thinking.

Here's an excellent post by Nathan Newman on labor issues that begins with a brief history of unions in Las Vegas but expands into an excellent survey of the current union situation: Why Unions? Labor 101.
