Worst President Since 1945

Editor & Publisher writes on a public opinion poll that shows President George W. Bush is considered to be the worst president since 1945:
A new Quinnipiac Poll finds American voters selecting George W. Bush as easily the worst American president in the past 61 years, with fellow Republican Ronald Reagan picked as the best.

Bush was named by 34% of voters, followed by Richard Nixon at 17% and Bill Clinton at 16%, according to the Quinnipiac University national poll of over 1,500 voters released today. Leading the list for best President since 1945 is Ronald Reagan with 28%, and Clinton with 25%.

While Democrats and Republicans split widely on the "worst" choice, 35% independent voters picked Bush.

I'm surprised Bush's numbers weren't even higher. But then the total bill for all his blunders and incompetence won't come due for some years yet. I suppose the one question I have is why the poll didn't ask who's the worst president since the founding of our democracy?

Your bottom-line question was the first thing that came to my mind, as well.

I imagine the pollsters appreciate that most Americans' appreciation of presidents past skips quickly from Washington, Jefferson and Jackson to Lincoln and then, maybe, to FDR and forward.

(Uh, Woodrow Wilson? Uh, hmm, didn't they have a few heavy-metal hits in the '70s or something?

Oh, a president, huh? Hmm, when was that . . .?
