More Word on Possible Rove Indictment

As of 6:00PM eastern time on Saturday, May 13, there is still no confirmation that Karl Rove has been indicted by Special Prosecutor, Patrick Fitzgerald but Jason Leopold of Truthout has the following story:
Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald spent more than half a day Friday at the offices of Patton Boggs, the law firm representing Karl Rove.

During the course of that meeting, Fitzgerald served attorneys for former Deputy White House Chief of Staff Karl Rove with an indictment charging the embattled White House official with perjury and lying to investigators related to his role in the CIA leak case, and instructed one of the attorneys to tell Rove that he has 24 hours to get his affairs in order, high level sources with direct knowledge of the meeting said Saturday morning.

Robert Luskin, Rove's attorney, did not return a call for comment. Sources said Fitzgerald was in Washington, DC, Friday and met with Luskin for about 15 hours to go over the charges against Rove, which include perjury and lying to investigators about how and when Rove discovered that Valerie Plame Wilson was a covert CIA operative and whether he shared that information with reporters, sources with direct knowledge of the meeting said.

There have been false alarms and numerous delays in the past three years but two stories by Jason Leopold in 48 hours plus speculation on MSNBC during the week is interesting indeed. There is no question in my mind that the White House outed Valerie Plame in an effort to cover up its outright deceptions concerning the Niger/Iraq uranium claims; the only question all along has been who did what and when. Fitzgerald, of late, appears to be only investigating the obstruction of his investigation and perjury. The answers from the White House about the whole affair have never been forthcoming despite assurances from President Bush. And a Republican Congress has refused to hold hearings on the subject. There is still a great deal to learn.

Why is it that when powerful Republicans do something wrong, it seems to take three to five years to get them in front of a judge?

Kenneth Lay, Tom DeLay and Karl Rove come to mind.

The old saying is better late than never, and while I would have loved to prevented this scum from doing what he did, at least he is going to face justice.

The people I have talked to said Leopold would not have run this story unless their was some very solid footing behind it. I suspect we are within 72 hours of the announcement.
