Warning No. 8,492: Global Warming Is Real
One of the ironies of Global Warming is that if the oil companies would take it seriously and help switch to alternative fuels and energy sources, they'll probably still make a bunch of money. What some of the high rollers in the executive suites won't be able to do anymore is make sweetheart deals based on family or political connections. That can't be bad for America.
David Perlman of the San Francisco Chronicle has the latest on Global Warming and the melting ice of Greenland:
Instead of using their considerable public relations skills to help their wealthy friends and corrupt campaign contributors, it's a shame Bush, Karl Rove and other Republicans aren't getting the word out that Global Warming is real and that we need to do something about it. With a little more imagination and considerably more decency, there's a great deal, in fact, that Bush and his friends could be talking about that would be useful. But they seem to have missed a few lessons on common sense in their lives. And a few lessons on real leadership. Our nation is poorer because of their notion of what 'winning' means.
David Perlman of the San Francisco Chronicle has the latest on Global Warming and the melting ice of Greenland:
The vast ice cap that covers Greenland nearly three miles thick is melting faster than ever before on record, and the pace is speeding year by year, according to global climate watchers gathering data from twin satellites that probe the effects of warming on the huge northern island.
The consequence is already evident in a small but ominous rise in sea levels around the world, a pace that is also accelerating, the scientists say.
According to the scientists' data, Greenland's ice is melting at a rate three times faster than it was only five years ago....
(snip)
The same satellites tracking Greenland's ice cap also are monitoring the melt rate of Antarctica's ice cover, and there too the melting is adding to the global rise in sea level, according to another team of scientists.
